Eversource Energy is committed to the customers and businesses in Westmoreland and Chesterfield and has deployed a number of measures aimed at improving reliability and increasing resiliency of the circuit. To continue to improve reliability and advance clean energy, Eversource submitted a request with the NHPUC last year to conduct a demonstration project in Westmoreland to install a utility-scale battery that would ensure power flowed uninterrupted for up to four hours during an outage until permanent repairs could be made. This project would have been one of the first major utility-scale battery installation projects in New Hampshire.
After several discussions with the NHPUC to better understand the benefits it is looking for from energy storage projects in New Hampshire, Eversource has decided to withdraw the Westmoreland battery project proposal for NHPUC consideration. Regardless of this withdrawal, Eversource will continue to analyze, identify, and implement reliability improvements in Westmoreland and Chesterfield. Eversource will also continue reviewing this project and evaluating the appropriate next steps for bringing a successful energy storage proposal to the Commission as soon as reasonably possible.
